Privacy and Public Access

The Bureau website is primarily a static public information service. It does not provide public user accounts, comments, submissions or other facilities that require visitors to provide personal information through the website.

The Bureau does not intentionally collect personal information from visitors unless there is a defined operational purpose for doing so.

The website uses Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting, content delivery, DNS and security. Technical information associated with requests to the website may therefore be processed by Cloudflare for purposes including delivery of website content, detection of malicious traffic and protection of the public service.

Such technical information may include network and request information such as IP addresses, request paths, browser or user-agent information, timestamps and security-related request characteristics.

Security and operational records are retained according to the facilities and retention periods provided by the Cloudflare services in use. The Bureau does not maintain a separate long-term visitor tracking database for the public website.

The Bureau does not use advertising trackers or third-party visitor analytics on the public website.

The Bureau does not intentionally set application cookies for ordinary use of the public website. Security or infrastructure services may use technical mechanisms when required to protect or operate the service.

If functionality requiring additional cookies, analytics or personal information is introduced in the future, this notice will be reviewed and updated accordingly.

Correspondence sent to the Bureau by email necessarily contains information supplied by the sender. Such information is used for the purpose of receiving and responding to the correspondence.

The Bureau of Digital Antiquities is a fictional institution. This website is an independent creative and educational project concerned with the documentation and presentation of digital history and digital preservation.

Bureau offices, programmes, institutional records and administrative activities presented by this website form part of that fictional framework unless otherwise indicated. Historical websites, software, organisations, technologies and events documented by the Bureau may, however, refer to real-world subjects.

Names, trademarks, screenshots, archival captures and other third-party material referenced or reproduced by the Bureau remain subject to the rights of their respective owners.

Where third-party or archival material is reproduced, the Bureau seeks to identify its source and provenance with the relevant record where practicable. The inclusion of such material does not imply endorsement by, affiliation with or ownership by the Bureau.

Original Bureau text, graphics and other project material should be distinguished from third-party material documented as part of the historical record. Permission to use original Bureau material should not be assumed to extend to third-party works.

This notice may be revised when the Bureau introduces new public services or makes material changes to the way the website processes information.
